Chair Stone reported that he would be joining
the members advisory group for the CCAH.

Commissioners Reports
Commissioner Heylin announced that the Accessible
Parking Violator Resource Card distributed by the Commission needs to be
updated to reflect phone number changes. He also obtained a sample form letter
to send to violators from an Attorney named Frankovich.
Chair Stone reported that he attended low
vision conference.
Commissioner Cosentino reported that Karen
Gosling at Domincan has been gathering medical equipment to send to Katrina
survivors. There are two large metal storage containers full of equipment and
supplies ready to go. Ms. Gosling is currently working on securing funding to
ship the supplies. She has been a tremendous advocate and lead person in this
effort. The Coordinator offered to send a “Thank you” note from the Commission.
Vice Chair Quigg reported that he is making
progress on changing State Building Code on elevators to allow for back up
elevators, which are more affordable. Currently they are trying to decipher if
current code would allow for the less expensive elevator without any changes.
Success in this change would provide advantages both financially and
physically.
Commissioner Bush reported that he was in contact
with the Elections Department on Election Day and there were no incidents of
persons complaining that their access to voting was denied.
7.2 Coordinator’s Report

Distributed a Fact Sheet from the 2000 Census on the
disability population in Santa Cruz County.

Letter to the Attorney General will be sent

Suggested that Commissioners begin thinking about
participating in the Reel Work Labor Film Festival in April. The Commission
would sponsor an evening featuring a film that related labor and disability.

There will be no meeting in December

The Annual 2005 Commission Report to the Board will ready
for review at the January 2006 meeting.
·
The EEO Department has invited the Commission to participate
in an employment summit. Commissioners’ Schecter and Cosentino expressed
interest.

Inclusive Home Design/Universal Access: Commissioners
discussed ways people can find out about accessible home improvements. Commissioner
Schecter suggested that Sally Jorgenson. Commissioners will start a list.

discussed preparing a Fact Sheet on the local Disability population and the
availability of Contractor referrals for access upgrades.

& Debra Lane regarding Attorney General Lawsuit
ACTION: The Commission approved a letter to be sent to Mr.
Daugherty and Ms. Lane addressing their concerns.

Chair Stone discussed the need to update the
County’s Emergency Preparedness Plan as it relates to persons with
disabilities.
