Meeting Minutes- No Quorum

1.0       Call to Order

Vice Chair Quigg called the meeting informational due to a lack of quorum.

ACTION: The Commission approved minutes for the January meeting. - tabled

Barbara Jackson suggested that the Commission do more outreach including providing a bus for persons with disabilities to attend meetings. She also requested that the Commission look into whether the friends of the library display accessibility on their book sale poster. She reported that the Arana Gulch Green Belt Recreation Trail is partly accessible.

 

Doug Patrick reported that he is working on a committee to incorporate more information on persons with disabilities in the Community Assessment Project. The Kick-off party for the report is on Friday, 2/24 at the United Way Conference Room from 1pm –2pm. He requested suggestions and participation from the Commission on recommendations for inclusion on the report.

 

 7.0 Reports

            7.1 Commissioners Reports

 

Commissioner Cosentino reported that the International Conference on Aging and Disability is looking for sites to put up model Universal Design homes. Commissioners’ Cosentino and Quigg volunteered to be resources for the Conference. Commissioner Cosentino also reported that she and Karen Gosling are looking to create a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) exchange program in Santa Cruz. In addition, Commissioner Cosentino is also working to expand resources and services to beratric clients (over 500lbs) by approaching apple computers for laptops and working with local ambulance companies to acquire an ambulance that could serve large people. She is also trying to get ceiling lifts on a trial basis in a 2-bed room in the Cabrillo Rehab unit.

 

Vice Chair Quigg reported he is still working on the elevator regulations with the State.

8.2 Commission vacancy update

The Commission urged Doug Patrick to serve on the Commission as a parent of a child with a disability.

 

8.3 Reel Work Labor Film Festival

The Coordinator is working on securing the film: Weirded Out and Blown Away.  The tentative date for the showing is Thursday, April 20, 2006 night at 7:30pm.
