Meeting Minutes- No Quorum

1.0       Call to Order

Vice Chair Stone called the meeting informational due to a lack of quorum.

3.0 Announcements

Manuel Diaz reported  that the Disability training  is scheduled for June 8, 2006 from 10am to 4pm. Guest speaker Laura Gilchrist – owner of Eloquent Insights.  Asked for panelists to talk about their experiences in the workforce and/or getting into the workforce.

 Second workshop developed by CDC for leadership – CERC Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication.

Michael Bradshaw reported that a 100-member committee on transportation funding has been formed to develop a plan for the County. There will be five workshops where the community can give input. More information is available at www.SCCRTC.gov.

            7.1 Commissioners Reports

Commissioner Heylin reported on his meeting with the Sheriff’s department regarding accessible parking violations.  The Commission was asked to provide the Sheriff with locations, days, and time where violations most occur. Commissioners discussed empowering Security Guards at County facilities to issue citations and also to include locations where events are held.

 

Commissioner Cosentino reported on attending the EEO Summit sponsored by County Personnel. Manuel Pastor from the Center on Justice, Tolerance and Social Justice lectured on Environmental Justice and presented information on the ethnic demographic change in Santa Cruz County. Claire Schwartz, County EEO Officer, talked about the County employment demographic and the need to balance the representation.  Commissioner Cosentino suggested the Commission request for a report on the specific opportunities in the County for employment as many of the workforce retire.  She also distributed information about the bariatric population in the community and the effects of environmental factors that contribute to return to hospital environments.

*Long Term Care Commission – contact about the plan for Long Term Care in the County including a possible workshop to educate people in the community about available services.

 

Vice Chair Quigg reported on a building project that will include 12-14 units for extremely low-income. The location is near the bus line and 1/4 mile from the grocery store. The building will also include a back up elevator.

 

Chair Stone reported on legislation and need for a member on the ED&TAC.

8.1 Updates

Inclusive Home Design/Universal Access: Mark Demming distributed a packet to Commissioners who did not get the packet last meeting. He gave a brief history on the Commission’s proposed ordinance.  The state came up with a model Universal Home Design ordinance that does not apply to custom built homes.

 

Accessible Parking Enforcement: Commissioner Heylin reported that he met with Supervisor Mark Stone, who arranged a meeting between Commission representatives and the Sheriff. The revenue reportedly generated by Fremont created interest in renewing this project.

8.2 Commission vacancy update

There is an opening in the fourth district.

 

8.3 Reel Work Labor Film Festival

The Coordinator arranged to get the film Weirded Out and Blown Away for the Thursday, April 20th event. The Attic has been generously donated for the event and Michael Bradshaw of CCCIL has agreed to be the MC.

Commissioners requested that the Coordinator provide updated Accessible Parking Violator Cards at the event.
